On paper, both models seem to offer the same performance. The new M1 chip bridges the performance gap between the Air and Pro models as the same chip has been used on both the models. The good news is that if you wish to opt for an Intel-powered variant you may get a discount on Amazon or Flipkart. Also, if you wish to buy the 13-inch MacBook Pro then M1 chip is the only option. For MacBook Air, you only have the option to buy it with the new ARM-based M1 chip. The only Intel-powered MacBook that can be purchased from the official website is the 16-inch MacBook Pro version that comes with up to 8-core Intel Core i9 processor. Apple is officially no longer selling Intel chip versions of MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro. The 17 inch MacBook Pro was a superior piece of hardware and Apple should bring it back.After introducing its own ARM-based M1 chip for MacBooks, Apple is no longer interested in selling MacBook Air and Pro models with Intel chips. But it just seems like they're pinching pennies these days by limiting (or optimizing depending on who your ask) their product line to appease shareholders while long-time Apple consumers get the shaft. They got there by innovative design concepts and great marketing. I'd really welcome a return of the 17 inch MacBook Pro.
New consumer tech has become more sleek and compact but I'm hoping that they kind of follow the cell phone industry's reverse trend of going smaller and then bigger again. All the internal components should be the same or very similar to the 15" model. The biggest difference was the extra screen size and the aluminum uni-body which are made from a single piece of metal. I think they're actually standard now on all new MacBooks. Retina display has been out for a while now so I really hope they've found a way to cut costs down for those.
